THE BELIEFS OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH
Listen to more

The Beliefs of the Anglican Church is an entirely new, multi-media approach to teaching the traditional understanding of Christian doctrine in preparation for Confirmation.  It is also intended as remedial instruction for those coming into Anglican jurisdiction from other denominations.  It is free of any negative references to the traditions of other denominations and the intimidating question-and-answer format found in the Prayer Book catechisms that many people find intimidating.

Instead, the book, and its companion slide presentation (offered separately), teaches doctrine in a positive way, providing answers to all the questions asked in traditional catechism, offices of instruction and the Thirty-Nine Articles.  The text offers a history of creeds and their purpose, followed by phrase-by-phrase explanations, with Scriptural authority where appropriate, of the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Commandments, and the Summary of the Law. Other sections explain the Anglican understanding of Scripture, including the Apocrypha; the seven Sacraments, and eight important doctrinal subjects:  the Church, Grace, Faith, Sanctification, Mercy, Fear of the Lord, Sin and Prayer.  The final chapters explain the Anglican Calendar, the Church Building, and Church Etiquette.   Two new Catechisms, each based upon the 1928 Book of Common Prayer format but with modernized language consistent with the New King James Version of the Bible.  The first Catechism is intended for use with young adults who were christened as children in an Anglican jurisdiction.  The second Catechism is intended for use with those who background is is other denominations.
