New Daily Offices & Prayers Book for Lay Persons

Fr. Ron Shibley has nearly completed research and editing for a new pocket-sized book of Daily Offices designed for daily use by lay persons.   The book will have offices for the primary hours according to the old monastic calendar.  These are 1st Hour (6 AM or Sunrise), 3rd Hour (9AM), 6th Hour (Noon), 9th Hour (3PM), Vespers (6 PM or Sunset) and Compline (before bed).  "Each office can be said in between 10 to 12 minutes.  They each follow the traditional form we used for our Morning and Noon Offices (see Tabs for each), with a combination of prayers, antiphons, Psalms, Scripture reading, Confession and the Lord's Prayer.  Each office gives a lay person a chance to escape for 10 minutes from the secular world into the greater world of the Lord's dominion.  I hope people will use the book on subways, buses, carpools, coffee and lunch breaks, or at home," Fr. Shibley explained.  The book should be available in time for Easter.

The book will also offer a wide range of prayers for times of day and certain occasions, including bereavement, travel, thanksgiving, repentence, meal prayers, study, Bible Study, military service, health professionals, and other occasions.  These prayers will come from ancient and modern prayers, including the traditional English and American books of common prayer from the Anglican, Methodist, Lutheran and Presbyterian traditions.

Morning, Noon & Evening Offices Now Available for Home Use
The complete text of all three of our monastic style offices, Morning, Noon & Evening Office/Compline, are now available in booklet form for home use.  None of the three offices requires the presence of an ordained clergyman.  If you would like a copy mailed to you, please send a sself-addressed envelope large enough for a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" document and $1.00 for shipping and handling or ask for one after Sunday morning services.  You may also click the tab above for each office and print a copy from your home computer.

Ron saw about ads for athiesm posted on a public bus in Iowa.
